THE TENTH DOCTOR IS BACK, IN AN ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES! NEW COMPANION! NEW FOES! ALLONS-Y!

The Eisner Award-winning Nick Abadzis (Laika) and fan-favorite Elena Casagrande (Angel, Suicide Risk, Doctor Who, Star Trek) take control of the TARDIS for their first five-issue arc with the Tenth Doctor, as played by David Tennant!

Gabriella Gonzalez is stuck in a dead-end job in her family's New York Laundromat, dreaming of college and bigger, better and brighter things.

So when a strange man with an even stranger big blue box barges into her life on the eve of the Day of the Dead celebrations - talking about an infestation of psychic aliens - she seizes her chance for adventure with both hands.

After Donna's tragic exit, the Doctor thought he was done with new companions. But Gabby Gonzalez is going to prove him wrong... if she survives the night!

Cover by Alice X. Zhang.

I enjoyed this graphic novel better than the 11th Doctor graphic novel, The After Life, in terms of both the stories and the artwork.

First, the cover artwork by Alice X. Zhang is simply gorgeous! I hope to see some more of her artwork in future Doctor Who issues by Titan.

As for the two separate stories, I find Nick Abadzis to be an excellent writer. There are times I felt that a certain page was a bit too wordy but he does bring such depth to the story through his writing. There were a few scenes which I felt were clearly a rip-off from "Rose", such as the Doctor telling Gabby to forget him after their first encounter. I absolutely loved how the second story was told which was through Gabby's journal. Very original and unique approach in writing comic books! There were times that I've found Gabby's small handwriting hard on the eyes but I found the handwritten texts very refreshing, considering the art of handwriting is becoming a lost art in today's generation. Handwriting brings out so much of a person's personality.

Elena Casagrande, the artist of both stories, did a marvelous job drawing out the stories. She had the knack of making the story almost seamless through her artwork. I think she truly succeeded in capturing Tennant's likeness, something that Simon Fraser and Boo Cook have failed in with their Doctor, the Smith Doctor. Arianna Florean's coloring - such bold and vibrant colors. Her work really compliments Elena's work really well! More Elena and Arianna please!

Looking forward to the next volume!

Doctor Who The Tenth Doctor #1 eBook Nick Abadzis Arianna Florean Elena Casagrande Alice Zhang Reviews

This book features adventures of the 10th Doctor set sometime after Series 4.

To start off with, let's talk about the art Wow! Elena Casagrande nails the art. Her likeness of Tennant, of the TARDIS interior is perfect. She puts so much into each character. The art throughout this is incredibly complex and rich. I've rarely seen a comic look this good unless it was painted by Alex Ross.

The stories are fairly good. Gabby makes a great new companion. She's a likable and interesting character who you can easily relate to. The stories were fairly clever themed. I'd like the first one centering on New York's celebration of the Day of the Dead, and the second one on another planet involving a reclusive artist and her insane assistants. There were some decent concepts, with the second story revisiting the idea of block transfer mathematics from the Fourth and early Fifth Doctor era without seeming too wistful.

The biggest problem is that while Casagrande captures the physical appearance of the Tenth Doctor, Abadzis really struggles that Doctor's unique voice. There are a few parts of the book that are a bit verbose, and I should there are some elements in the second story parents might find problematic. Still, this is a gorgeous book and gives a wonderful new look at Titan's 10th Doctor Title.
Bought this as a gift but have heard only amazing things about it. I’ll eventually purchase it for myself, too.
I bought this for a $1, I thought, why not? I’ll read the second edition to find out what happens.
I loved this book, and I intend to get more of them. However, the binding isn't great, so this might not be recommended for kids. The first couple of pages are somewhat loose. I was planning on sharing it with my son, but I am reluctant to let him read it now. =/ I would have expected much better binding for the price.
I wasn't quite sure if I was going to like this series or not, but when I got this book I was super impressed. For one thing the price is fantastic (for a hardcover? Amazing). The artwork was high quality (I haven't been incredibly impressed by past Doctor Who artwork... it's up and down usually). The story grabs your attention and even though it features a completely new companion, she's very likeable and you quickly grow attached as though you're watching the show itself. All around, this book was a great fun read and I can't wait for Volume 2. )
This is the first comic/graphic novel/whatever you want to call it I have ever purchased. As a Doctor Who fan who much preferred the RTD era I was hoping for something along those lines when I picked up this book. Nick Abadzis exceeds my hopes beyond my wildest dreams. This is very well written and feels true to the Tenth Doctor era of the show. The new companion is better developed than certain characters on the show in recent years. The artwork is beautiful. I cannot recommend this enough to fans of the Tenth Doctor.
Allons-y, Dr. Who fans. If you are a fan of the 10th doctor, then you won't be disappointed by this book. The author does a wonderful job and capturing Tennant's essence. It truly feels as if you were watching an episode of the show as perform by David Tennat. The artist was a revelation to me, she is flipping amazing, the panels are great, the characters look beautiful. Seriously if you like Dr. Who this is one series you cannot miss.
